VDV Recommendation 150: Type Recommendations for Tramcars and Light Rail Vehicles [Print]

VDV Recommendation 150 has been revised to provide the public transport companies with an up-to-date

guide on the requirements for tramcars and LRVs that have to be considered right from the beginning by a call

for tender for tramcars and LRVs. Several general approaches are discussed in detail and recommendations for

the realisation are made on the basis of the experience and development in recent years.

The intended standardisation is often in opposition to the specific requirements emerging from network

infrastructures that have developed in the course of time as well as to the regional authorities’ requirements

that compromises have to be made then to do justice to the economic efficiency, the reliability and the

attractiveness for the passengers over the life of a vehicle generation in consideration of the infrastructure.

Dual system vehicles have been included in this edition of the VDV Recommendation 150 because several dual-

mode systems are already being operated or planned.

This VDV Recommendation supersedes VDV Recommendation 150 from 04/1995.
