VDV Recommendation 860: „Recommendation on the Equipment and Machines needed for the Vehicle Maintenance in Depots and Workshops“ [Print]
Edition 05/2021
VDV Recommendation 860 provides an overview of a subject area of rapidly increasing importance.
Based on the VDV Recommendation 822 "Guidelines for the construction of bus depots" and 823 "Recommendations for the design of streetcar and light rail depots", VDV Recommendation 860 provides a comprehensive description of the requirements for operational equipment for vehicle maintenance that reflects the current state of the art.
Further developments in vehicle technology (lightweight construction, digitalization, telematics, etc.) will also require continuous adaptation of the equipment status of depots and workshops in the future and will result in an update of VDV Recommendation 860. New vehicle or drive concepts with extensive demand for specific equipment technology, on the other hand, represent a separate topic and are not the subject of this publication. Equipment for buses with alternative drive systems is dealt with in detail in VDV Recommendation 825 "Effects of the “Clean Vehicles Directive” at city buses on depots and workshops".
Increasingly under competitive pressure, public transport companies are required to exploit all cost-cutting potential and to design and operate the infrastructure needed to produce their services as efficiently as possible.
The facilities required for vehicle maintenance and their equipment with working materials must therefore enable fast and cost-effective, i.e. competitive, work with economical use and at the same time meet the concerns of occupational health and safety as well as the requirements of environmental protection.
The current edition of VDV Recommendation 860 replaces VDV publication 860 "Recommendation for the equipment of depots and workshops with work equipment for vehicle maintenance" from 2005.
